SilkscreeningSilkscreening for Glass & More (An exciting class with quick results!)
4/17/08 to 4/18/08
Sister Marie Tatina, Oblate OSB
This two day class will cover the direct method of screening (tusche) and the indirect method (using a photo emulsion). Learn to stretch your own screen, prepare it for the process and use the tools for screening. You will actually create two screens which are yours to keep. We will go over how to screen and matt over the screening all at one time, requiring only one firing. Students need to bring: several designs NO LARGER than 8" x 10" (from these you will create your screens). Bring the original and a mirror image of each one. Also bring several technical pens (Rapidograph ROTRING sizes 2 to 6 are highly recommended). The rotring works from an ink cartridge that is gas charged. It rarely clods or dries out. It is the best addition to design supplies. These will be used for drawing on a duralar clear plastic. Other substitutes will not work. A design fee of $25 will be paid to Sister for the 2 screens. These will be yours at the end of class. Lunch is provided.

NEW!
HANDS-ON MOLD MAKING WITH KAISER LEE BOARD
8/4/08    9:00am - 4:00pm
Petra & Wolfgang Kaiser, Kaiser Lee, LLC.

BASIC FUSING KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED

Experience nearly endless possibilities in glass fusing, using Kaiser Lee Board (KLB) as kiln furniture for plate-, drape-, drop out- and casting molds and kiln shelves.

KLB can be used over and over again, so our goal is to show you how to make molds that you will enjoy for a very long time and don’t get bored with. You will create very interesting and original glass art with your own molds.

KLB will add another dimension to your creativity; it can be used to fire over and into it. Petra will challenge your way of thinking about glass fusing design. Bring the inside dimensions of your kiln in form of a cardboard pattern of the kiln floor (not the kiln shelf). This way we can make the molds to fit the size of your kiln which determines the size of your finished piece - but not its originality in shape and form when you use KLB as your choice of mold material.

Unlike other mold making products, KLB is an instant mold material. So it will be possible for you to learn how to cut and carve your own mold from a 1" x 8" x 9" piece of KLB.

Then we’ll use some beautiful System 96 glass to experience the delight of full fusing and slumping an unusual plate in a single firing. You will also learn how to use KLB successfully as a drape mold and how to make your own dual colored stringers.

By class end, retail shop owners will have enough material to teach several glass fusing classes. Hot glass artists will find that work will be easier and more successful. Students bring: safety glasses, dust mask, long sleeve working shirt, one old newspaper, scissors, notebook, pencil, glass cutting tools, and carving tools if you have any.
$225 Regular/$200 Premier

*Please note: This class will be held off-site at Suevel Studios in
Arlington Heights.
