The Chameleon’s skin was created using many hundreds of pieces of glass. This glass was first turned molten in the kiln, to give them a rounded shape, then copper foil was added to each piece which were individually soldered together over the steel skeleton to create a seamless finish.

Please join us in congratulating Phil Petersen of Stained Glass Heirlooms in Tipton, Iowa, on being the winner of our 2012 Ed Hoy’s Spectrum Glass Artist of the Month Challenge!
This was Phil’s winning piece, as voted on by our Facebook fans! The title of this piece is “Rooster in the Haymow”.

“I love to work with Spectrum glass and the rooster/haymow panel was perfect for the glass textures and colors! We used chorded glass to mimic wood grain, the stones look to be marbled as stone is in real antique barns all over the world. The feathers on the rooster are made to look like they are wispy and flowing. I used ruby red rough rolled to give the texture of the comb on a rooster. We did the placement of the glass on the wood to mimic shadows under the chicken and on the door and walls. Spectrum glass is magnificent for doing this type of work,” said Phil Petersen.
Phil will receive a $200 credit on his Ed Hoy’s International account to be used toward the purchase of Spectrum Glass.
We’d like to thank Phil and all of the other artists who took part in the challenge for their willingness to share their work and to participate in this event!
April is “Glass Month” and we will be continuing to feature all of the artists who took part in the challenge on our Facebook page, Twitter profile, and Blog!
